The Mizoram Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has directed industries and establishments operating Diesel Generator (DG) Sets below 1000 kVA in Mizoram to adopt measures for reducing particulate matter emissions and improving air quality.
The following has been stated:
All operational DG sets of capacity below 1000 kVA must either be retrofitted with an Emission Control Device/Equipment having a minimum of 70% specified particulate matter capturing efficiency, tested as per the prescribed 5-mode D2 cycle, or be shifted to gas-based generators through retrofitting for partial gas usage or by employing new gas-based generators.
The emission control equipment must be tested over an ISO 8178 5-mode D2 cycle for equivalent kVA rating by one of the five recognised laboratories: ARAI, Pune; ICAT, Manesar; Indian Oil Corporation R&D Centre, Faridabad; Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun; or VRDE, Ahmednagar.
DG sets having capacity of 1000 kVA and above will continue to be regulated under the Consent Regime in accordance with the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
All users and establishments operating DG sets in Mizoram are required to comply with these directions within 120 days from August 25, 2026, failing which action may be initiated under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
